As a Los Angeles lifestyle photographer, I have become very comfortable with working on the shores of Malibu. Shooting in the sand is as natural for me as working in a studio and it adds a delightful element of surprise. While a lot of photographers may find these surprises frustrating, I enjoy creating with them.
On this day, the sunlight was bouncing gleefully off of the water. And it provided the perfect conditions for one of our favorite lighting looks. We were about to start the shoot when the sky seemed to have other plans and surprised us with a thunderous rain shower. We spent the day hanging out under a lone tree on the beach and running out to different locations to shoot whenever the rain let up. It was actually a very entertaining day and we ended up loving a cloudy, rainy beach day just as much as a sunny one. It’s rare to shoot during a rainy day on a beach, and this shoot will always be special because of that.
