Strong is Beautiful
Being healthy and active in modern times means adopting a lifestyle and mindset, not simply going to the gym a couple of times each week. This shift in perception has driven much of the demand for the booming athleisure fashion category. It has also created a welcomed trend toward emphasizing health and strength in beauty and fashion.
Breaking Standards of Beauty
Preferred looks, body shapes, features, and styles shift every decade or so in society and the industry. This is apparent when you look at casting for advertisements, editorials, and magazine covers. Although it seems that as the years go on, the time that it takes for trends to shift becomes shorter. Eventually, I hope this results in so much overlap that standards become overwhelmed by a broad acceptance of diversity and individuality. I am beginning to see this evolution take place, which makes it an exciting time for casting. The range of what’s considered desirable has never been so diverse. As a photographer who always seeks what’s special, intriguing, and unexpected, I find this period immensely rewarding.
Celebrating Strength with Candace & Ivy Park
Our shoot with Candace celebrates the concept that ‘strong is beautiful’. She is a natural athlete and represents the synchronization of mind, body, and attitude in this modern era of health and fitness. I love how Candace communicates a confident, empowered vibe with every aspect of her look and personality. Her facial features, posture, and attitude all complement her fit physique. Finding the right wardobe for this shoot was critical. We needed a style with strong silhouettes that also lent a toughness and edge that would help to solidify the concept and Ivy Park answered the call.
